Day 1: Gather in Lanzhou

Arrive in Lanzhou City with a convenient pickup to your hotel.

If you arrive early, take a short walk from your hotel to the Yellow River Iron Bridge (Zhongshan Bridge) to sip beer and admire the vibrant river night views.

Day 2: Lanzhou City — Wuwei City

Drive 3 hours (270km) to Wuwei City to tour the serene Baita Temple, the historic site of the Liangzhou Talks and the final resting place of Sakya Pandita.

If time permits in the afternoon, browse rare artifacts at the Wuwei Museum.

Day 3: Wuwei City

Spend your morning at the Tiantishan Grottoes, China's earliest grottoes carved during the Northern Liang dynasty with a shocking 1,600-year history.

In the afternoon, visit the Leitai Han Tomb, the historic excavation site of the national treasure "Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow."

Day 4: Wuwei City — Zhangye City

Drive 3 hours (236km) to Zhangye City to explore the magnificent Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon.

As the only Danxia park offering open trekking routes, its towering red cliffs and steep canyons unfold a breathtaking, wild geological scroll.

Day 5: Zhangye City

Visit the suburban Mati Temple Grottoes, carved 1,600 years ago during the Eastern Jin dynasty amidst a completely unique landscape.

At dusk, admire the vibrant mountain ridges at the Colorful Danxia, the famous filming location for Zhang Yimou's cinema movie.

Day 6: Zhangye City — Jiayuguan City

Tour the Giant Buddha Temple to admire China’s largest surviving Western Xia architectural structure and its giant Buddha.

Afterward, drive 3 hours (230km) to climb the historic Jiayuguan Castle Rock to feel the Boldness grandeur of this legendary pass.

Day 7: Jiayuguan City — Guazhou County — Dunhuang City

Journey west to Guazhou County (275km) to marvel at the exquisite Western Xia special cave frescoes inside the quiet Yulin Caves.

Conclude your day with a 1.5-hour drive (123km) to the oasis of Dunhuang City to rest and relax.

Day 8: Dunhuang City

Dedicate your day to the legendary Mogao Grottoes.

Attend an exclusive lecture by a Dunhuang Academy Expert arranged by Tommy at the digital media center, followed by a coordinated tour combining regular caves and optional Special Caves.

Day 9: Dunhuang City

Walk through history at the ancient desert outpost of Yumen Pass to feel the millennium-old poetry of the Silk Road.

In the afternoon, explore Echoing Sand Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring with Tommy to enjoy camel rides, desert drifting cars, and a sand-dune sunset.

Day 10: Dunhuang City — Airport

Enjoy a flexible morning based on your schedule; those with extra time can visit the Dunhuang Museum to wrap up their studies.

Tommy will arrange a dedicated transfer to the Airport for your return trip.
